If you think the only way to make the big bucks is to become a Wall Street titan, CEO, athlete, or actor, think again. Apparently, it pays really well to be an oppressive dictator who terrorizes his country with U.S. backing. Experts say the wealth of the Mubarak family was built largely from
military contracts during his days as an air force officer. He
eventually diversified his investments through his family when he became
president in 1981. The family's net worth ranges from $40 billion to
$70 billion, by some estimates.
The good news is, your path to fabulous riches doesn't have to go through Cairo:Amaney Jamal, a political science professor at Princeton, said those
estimates are comparable with the vast wealth of leaders in other Gulf
countries. The average income per Egyptian family is $2,070 and the inflation rate is 12.8%. I'm disgusted that $billions in U.S. foreign aid is pumped into Egypt every year so the Mubarak family can add to it's pile of stolen wealth at the expense of Egyptian citizens.
