From the Can't Make This Up department, the 96-year old former governor of Arizona, Raul Castro, was made to sit in the sweltering Arizona heat for 30 minutes, because of a medical procedure he had the previous day.  Mr. Castro's heart procedure caused the border agent's radiation detector to go off.  Apparently thinking the U.S. might be under attack by the frail former governor, Mr. Castro was then detained for 30 minutes.  Even worse, they refused to let him sit in the air-conditioned car.  On the plus side, they gave him a fan.

The agent asked Doan to drive into the secondary inspection area, and she and Castro were directed to a shaded area beneath a canopy where a fan was blowing. At the time, the National Weather Service station at Nogales recorded a temperature of 97 degrees.

Apparently, using common sense is frowned upon within the Border Patrol, similar to the TSA.  As is the courtesy to escort a 96-year old man into their air-conditioned office.
