Posted by Randall A Reinwasser on Wednesday, June 27, 2012, In : Culture
Imagine getting on your next flight and sitting next to a...pony.  Mona Ramouni said no thanks to having a guide dog, and instead uses Cali, her service pony.  Pretty cool stuff...

Not really, at least if you compare the cost here vs other major economies.  Besides Russia, fuel costs are significantly below the other 9 countries surveyed:

Do you have Portfolio Insurance?

Posted by Randall A Reinwasser on Sunday, June 24, 2012, In : Gold and Silver
Everyone knows you should have insurance on your home and car, but how about your investment portfolio?  While there's not an investment product that pays you back if your Rollover IRA takes a nasty dive, there is one asset that can protect you from financial catastrophe:  Gold.

As you're surely aware, the currencies of the world are backed by nothing and derive their value from faith in the institutions that control them.  In the U.S. that would include the Federal Reserve, Congress and the...

Border Patrol Proves They're Just as Moronic as TSA

Posted by Randall A Reinwasser on Saturday, June 23, 2012, In : Politics
From the Can't Make This Up department, the 96-year old former governor of Arizona, Raul Castro, was made to sit in the sweltering Arizona heat for 30 minutes, because of a medical procedure he had the previous day.  Mr. Castro's heart procedure caused the border agent's radiation detector to go off.  Apparently thinking the U.S. might be under attack by the frail former governor, Mr. Castro was then detained for 30 minutes.  Even worse, they refused to let him sit in the air-conditioned car....

The 7 Words That Can Save You $408/Year

Posted by Randall A Reinwasser on Monday, June 18, 2012, In : Personal Finance
"I want to cancel my internet service."  Those seven magic words sent Heather, the Cox retention agent, into a robotic like state.  "Sir, you've been a loyal customer for 13 years, may I ask why you're leaving us?"  What I felt like saying was "you've been jacking up my internet fees at a ridiculous rate for 6 years, it's time for a little payback".  Instead, to get what I wanted which was lower internet fees, with none of the hassle of switching companies, I said "DirecTV is offering 12 mont...

Shocking: CEO Fired for Underperformance

Posted by Randall A Reinwasser on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, In : Stocks
It's pretty sad that this is surprising...Barrick Gold CEO Aaron Regent was fired for simply not doing a good job.  There wasn't a scandal, an ethical compromise or anything else. He just flat-out failed to grow the company's share price to the satisfaction of Barrick's Board of Directors.

Good for them.  I'm sick of CEO's stocking the Board of Directors with their buddies.  These Board's are supposed to be independent and represent the shareholders.  99.99% of the time they're corporate execu...

COMEX Silver Inventory May 2012

Posted by Randall A Reinwasser on Monday, June 4, 2012, In : Gold and Silver
COMEX is the futures and options exchange where the price of many commodities is set, including silver.   Since peaking at 138.5 million ounces in August 2008, the COMEX silver inventory dropped sharply for nearly three straight years and bottomed in June 2011 at 98 million ounces.  This rapid drop led many silver observers to believe we were on the precipice of a severe supply crunch in silver that would lead to a skyrocketing silver price

However, beginning in July 2011, the COMEX silv...
