Way back in 2008, I filed a claim in regard to a class-action lawsuit against DeBeers. DeBeers was accused of manipulating the price of diamonds and agreed to pay-out something like $300 million for 22 years of price fixing. Basically, if you purchased diamonds during this time period you were eligible to receive compensation. If your cumulative diamond purchase was less than $10,000 you were on the honor system. If your purchases were more than $10,000 you had to send in receipts, proof of diamond grade, etc. Finally, after waiting for 5 1/2 years, my check arrived in the mail yesterday:

Not bad, they sent me $173.33. That was my first class-action claim. I now regularly monitor the website www.top classactions.com for other opportunities to stick it to the man receive compensation for unjust practices. Recently, I've filed claims against Southwest and Kellogs.

The forms take about two minutes to fill-out, so this is a very easy way to get compensation against companies that did you harm. I've never once had anything I submitted be questioned, so you probably don't need to worry about that, at least based on my experience.

What's Better Than Chocolate? Free Chocolate!

I have a weakness. No, it's not buying Enya records at the local flea market. I love me some chocolate. So, you can imagine my excitement when I learned about Godiva's Reward Program. Just for signing-up, Godiva gives you a free piece of chocolate every month, plus a bonus piece of chocolate on your birthday. This is how it went down when I went to the Godiva shop located in Fashion Square Mall this afternoon:

I immediately got lost and cursed to myself how much I hate malls.
10 minutes later, finally found Godiva.
Walked in and asked to sign-up for the Reward Program.
Moron Inexperienced employee tells me I have to make an "eeny bitty purchase" before signing up.
Knowing she's full of crap forgotten a rule, my facial expression immediately shifts to represent the disgust sympathy I have for this liar obviously new employee who's making up rules learning on the job.
Another employee, who's not in high school, corrects her and I give her my name and email.
She hands me my Godiva Chocolate Reward card and lets me know I can choose any item I want from the bottom row. There were dozens of choices and I went with a mint, chocolate ball. She wrapped it in some fancy paper and I was on my way.

The mint, chocolate ball was delicious and almost worth the frustration of wandering around that mall like a lost four-year old. I'll see you next month Godiva and you never know, I might even make an "eeny bitty purchase".

Make Your Own Handicap Sign

Saw this the other day. Maybe this person is really handicap, I don't know. But unless the real handicap sign was accidentally dropped into a shredder, I'm thinking a little tape on the torn placard would have been a better idea. On the same note, I'm pretty disgusted by the outright abuse of handicap parking stickers. While there's obviously a lot of people with legitimate needs for these, it seem like a large number of people seem to think they are entitled to handicap stickers because they're out of shape. Even worse are the healthy people who have access to handicap placards (i.e. they have one because of their spouse) using them, when driving by themselves. The doctors who hand these out like candy on Halloween are equally at fault.

My father was legitimately handicapped (used a cane to walk due to paralysis) but refused to ever park in a handicap spot. I can just imagine his disgust at this.
