Nearly six in ten Americans live in the state where they were born, according to the U.S. Census bureau. But there is considerable variation from state to state, as the map (above) by Zara Matheson of the Martin Prosperity Institute shows. More than three quarters of the people in Louisiana (78.9 percent), Michigan (76.6 percent) and Ohio (75.1 percent) were born there, as opposed to just 24.3 percent of Nevadans, 35.2 percent of Floridians, 37.2 percent of the residents of Washington, D.C., ... As you probably heard, American Airlines filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection today. The quick thinking marketing team at Spirit Airlines reacted by announcing a $11 fare sale on routes from their new destination in Dallas (which just happens to be American's home base). Straight from the company's press release:
Spirit Airlines (Nasdaq:SAVE) today marked a new chapter in Dallas/Fort Worth's history as it announced service to four new markets from DFW with $11 fares*.

Or do you want real change in this country? If it's the latter, Ron Paul is your only choice. You may not agree with Congressman Paul on a few issues but that shouldn't be a reason for you to dismiss the man. You know why? Because unless you're running for President, there's no candidate who you agree with 100% of the time. And even if you do, all these clowns running for office are just saying what you want to hear to get your vote and will conveniently change many of their policies once... Continue reading ...

On Capital Flight and Repatriation by Bruce Krasting
There are some folks in America who will wake up this morning and read that Jefferies has been sued for its role in a bond deal with MF Global and they will vote with their feet (Zero hedge Link). They will close their accounts with JEF and move to a safer address. That’s an example of capital flight.
There are people all over the globe who have looked at the rapid un-gluing of the ...

Maybe it's just my vivid imagination, but it appears Bob Schieffer conducted a very hostile interview with Ron Paul. Unfortunately for Schieffer, Congressman Paul wasn't going to be pushed around. And "nice" leading question about what happens to the parks when the Dept. of Interior is closed, as if he'd just let them go to waste.
The Reinwasser Middle-Class Index (RMCI) was built to more accurately
measure the month-to-month improvement or deterioration in the economic
health of the middle-class. The RMCI captures data in the Jobs,
Housing, Wealth & Spending, Confidence and Inflation categories and
compares current data to the average over the previous four months*. If
a data point is better than the four-month average it's scored +1, if
it's worse it's scored -1. As such, RMCI scores range from +10 to -10.

From the You Can't Make This Up Department, the EU has banned bottled water manufacturers from claiming that water fights dehydration. In other news, oxygen is not needed for breathing and gravity is just a rumor.Nigel Farage should have a good time with this one.
Way to go America! We did the seemingly impossible by increasing the debt to$15 TRILLION without completely collapsing the value of the dollar or causing a worldwide economic super depression. Some said it couldn't be done. Once again, America proved it's naysayers wrong. We're #1!
One of President Obama's many broken promises include "making government transparent". Fortunately, he hasn't failed completely at this task. The Treasury Department regularly updates Congress on the cost of the auto bailout and the most recent report increases the price tag by $9 billion to $23.6 billion, in large part due to the rapid fall of GM's stock price. -------------------------- U.S. boosts estimate of auto bailout losses to $23.6 billion Detroit News

Legal Stealing by Dave in Denver
One of my themes is that the business and political elite are stealing money from the middle class and nothing is being done about it by the people voted in office who are in charge of enforcing Rule of Law. Obama was elected overwhelmingly on his promise to clean up DC and restore some semblance of Constitutional-based justice in this country. He has failed miserably. In fact, I see no evidence that he's even made any attempt to honor his campaign promises.

Interesting insight from SI's Joe Posnanski, who has been living in State College working on a book about Joe Paterno. While Paterno clearly had to be removed, all I can think about is the Duke Lacrosse players and the rush to judgement. It's only fair to hear Paterno's side of the story before vilifying him. His lifetime of good work has earned him that. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The End of Paterno Joe Posnanski

What would a month of meditation do for you? In the portrait series “Before and After,” Peter Seidler photographs participants on their first and last days of dathun a 30-day group meditation retreat. He tells the Shambhala Times:
I set up the “Before and After” project to explore the observable effects on practioners after long periods of intense meditation practice. The question is: what are the observable changes after a period of intense practice?

Gold and Silver
COMEX is the futures and options exchange where the price of many commodities is set, including silver. Since peaking at 138.5 million ounces in August 2008, the silver inventory dropped sharply for nearly three straight years and bottomed this past June at 98 million ounces. This rapid drop led many silver observers to believe we were on the precipice of a severe supply crunch in silver that would lead to a skyrocketing silver price.
